One thing I do is link my URL in a title statement that I use as my signature on forums, then you just search that phrase in quotations through google and it should show the places you have it. Alta Vista also has a funtion that allows you to see what domains link to you. Just make sure there are no broken links that hurts your ranking

Okay, just a little bit of confusion here. When you speak of a backlink, does that mean that a site other than my own has put my site on their own links page? Or put a link in one of their articles? If that is not it, please correct me.

Checking some back link will help you to decide if you want to buy any site. Of all the methods that you have mentioned I think that Google gives the best solution.

Aside from checking back links on Google, I like the idea of using a tool for checking back link. One such back checker tool which I am using is Dnscoop.

Yes, I use the technique to avoid google bombing after every round of article submission using article distribution software to make sure that I am not building too many backlinks too fast to my sites.I have used the method to check backlinks on yahoo as well, but never did it for msn.Bing is becoming quite popular.Microsoft is finally making some headway in the search market.

Those are great, thank you. I just went and checked out a couple of them, and it's certainly intriguing to see what you can find there. This is definitely informative.

Nice article. My wife and I are starting our first website for an affiliate program and these are the type of tools we need. Google loves it when there are backlinks and will increase a sites page rank. Just need to be patient in building the links.

What a wonderful article. I have been wondering about backlinks and wondering how many sites would link to my website. I really appreciate the work you put into this article. How do backlinks directly benefit a website? Is there something that gets more traffic to my site, or are they just links of my website on other websites?
